A Couple in Amsterdam

Canals in Amsterdam

Are you going to Amsterdam with your boyfriend/girlfriend? Are you mad???? How many times have you heard this question from a friend? I know, probably a few times…

Giorgio says:

You know what? I actually enjoyed a lot going with Jin, my partner. There is a lot to visit (Van Gogh Museum, Anne Frank House, Sex Museum, VondelPark, Flea & Street market only to mention some of the numerous attracctions), and to do (Amsterdam Canal Cruises, Manneken pis amsterdam fries, The Pancake Bakery) for a couple. Probably, when you think about Amsterdam the first thought goes to Cannabis, Red Lights which is understandable because it is probably one of the things that makes this city unique.

About Cannabis: first thing to know is that coffee shops in Amsterdam are the places where you can find hash and cannabis. They are everywhere and they are full of young people. In coffee and some souvenir shops, you can also find the pot brownie, which is a brownie laced with marijuana, eaten for its psychoactive effects. Be careful, if it is your first time I suggest you to take the light brownie.

About Red Lights: They are mainly located in the heart of the city, but you can also find them in the outskirts. So many foreigners going there and walking around just because they are curious to see how inside looks like. Inside there are people (generally good looking women) waiting for customers (generally foreigners) and the cost for the service is around 50 Euro for 15/20 minutes. There are also some places where you can watch live sex shows: The Sex Palace Peep Show is a place where you go into a room (alone or with your partner) and you witness a woman/couple at 2 meters distance from you doing sexual activity; the cost is 1 euro per minute. Casa Rosso and Mouline Rouge are instead theatres with a live sex show lasting 1 hour and the cost is around 50 euro including two drinks. It is worth it? Well..if you never try, you will never know..

Is there only Amsterdam in Holland? Absolutely Not!!!!! Zaanse Schans and Volendam are definitely two places to visit: Zaanse Schans is a neighborhood in the Dutch town of Zaandam, near Amsterdam. Historic windmills and distinctive green wooden houses were relocated here to recreate the look of an 18th/19th-century village. Watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rz9_M1gUI0c

Volendam is a Dutch town on the Markermeer Lake, northeast of Amsterdam. It’s known for its colorful wooden houses and the old fishing boats in its harbor, which is lined with seafood vendors. Watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4RONSFlNDA

Holland is a beautiful country to visit but also to live. People speak both Dutch and English. If you want to do an Erasmus or study for your degree, I would strongly recommend to go in Holland.

Giorgio’s and Sujin’s friends asked if they tried the Red lights, cannabis, hash… Well, they will never know.
