Just my opinion about a bank shift of UKRN / 영국에서 간호사로 일하기

** all information from my post is from my experience, so it can be different in other places and hospitals.

제가 제 블로그에서 이야기하는 모든 것은 제 경험을 토대로 한것이니, 다른 병원이나 다른 지역은 다를 수 있습니다.

As a nurse in UK, you can work extra, the so called ‘a bank shift’ to get extra money. It is recommended up to 20 hours per week for your health.

The money you earn after bank shifts usually comes in your bank account on every Friday. It is of course after tax. (it might be different in other hospitals!).

Apparently, If you work one day of a bank shift, you would get £130-150 per day. It varies depending your work place and day. What I am saying is it is different when you work on Sunday in ICU from when you work on week days in a normal ward.

So, lots of agency nurses or those doing banks would like to do Saturday nights because it is night shift which is more money and Sunday wage us double from midnight.

원한다면 엑스트라로 더 일 할 수 있는데 보통 건강을 생각해서 권장 시간은 주당 20시간입니다. 엑스트라로 일하자고 정규 일하는 날에 sick off를 쓰면 안되기 때문이죠.

엑스트라로 일한 돈은 매주 금요일 통장에 들어오는데 당연히 세금은 떼입니다. 참고로 병원마다 다를 수 있어요. 저는 아직 뱅크시프트를 하지 않았습니다만 (뱅크 시프트를 위한 서류도 제출 안함, 돈없어도 시간 많은게 좋아서요..) 듣기로는 하루 수당은 130-150£정도이고 이것 또한 정말 다양합니다. 예를들어, 주말에 ICU에서 일한 돈과 주중에 보통 병동에서 일한 돈이 다르다는 것이지요.

그래서 많은 에이젼시 간호사나 엑스트라를 뛰는 간호사들은 토요일 나이트를 선호한답니다. 왜냐하면 나이트 수당과 밤 12시가 넘어가면 일요일이되어 수당이 2배이기 때문이죠.

According to the standard of the hospital where I work, you can apply for wherever you want to work. But if the work place you want doesn’t require any nurse, firstly, you might be sent to other places where is understaffed. Then, you can apply for anywhere after 6 months of your work experience in the hospital.

So it is different from hospitals in South Korea where you have to wait to go to clinics or you might be forced to rotate by the hospital.

제가 일하는 병원 기준으로 맨 처음 지원할 때 원하는 과에 지원가능하지만 보통 자리가 없으면 제일 인력 부족한 곳으로 먼저 투입시키고 병원 내 경력이 6개월 이상이면 어디든지 지원이 가능합니다. 그래서 한국처럼 순번을 기다려야 하는 일도 병원이 로테이션 시키면 가야하는 일도 없습니다.

A good point of a bank shift is you can work almost everywhere in the hospital except some of special area such as ICU and theater. Apparently, you can work as a bank in A&E and endoscopy clinic as well after getting trainings. So there are some nurses working many different areas in order to get wild experience.

그리고 엑스트라로 일하는 것은 특수파트를(ICU, theater..) 제외하고는 어느 병동에서든 가능합니다. 응급실이나 내시경실 같은 곳도 트레이닝만 받았으면 뱅크 시프트로 일하는 것이 가능합니다. 그래서 경험을 쌓고 싶어 일부러 여러 병동에서 일해보는 간호사들도 있어요.

There are lots of things that I want to talk about. I will post about that upsides of being a nurse in UK despite many downside I mentioned earlier, routine work on the ward and promotion opportunities etc..
